2009 Awards of Excellence

Honored by the Spokane Valley Chamber of Commerce

With great honor we are please to announce the 2009 Harry E. Nelson “Citizen of the Year” award to our very own Peggy Doering, honored as “Valleyfest Innovator” with her many years of service to create Valleyfest as the signature festival in our community and City of Spokane Valley.

The Harry E. Nelson Award was created by the Spokane Valley Chamber of Commerce to honor a citizen who have demonstrated exemplary service to business and surrounding community. Nelson, as the namesake for the award, is one of the founding member of the Chamber in 1921 who's vision of Spokane Valley was “a place of vibrant cities, the envy of the Inland Northwest.”

Greater Spokane Valley Chamber of Commerce, 7th Annual Awards Gala honored winners of Awards of Excellence, as well as the distinguished Harry E. Nelson, Citizen of the Year award for 2009 before a crowd of 200 guest on Saturday, January 30th. at CenterPlace Regional Event Center, Spokane Valley, Washington.

Join us for Valleyfest 2010.

The Community-wide event is held each September at Mirabeau Point Park in beautiful Spokane Valley. This premier event provides entertainment for the entire family, and an opportunity to meet and have fun with neighbors, while also recognizing area youth for their talents.

The Valleyfest weekend kick’s off at 7:00 p.m., Friday, September 24th, with the “Hearts of Gold” parade down Sprague Ave. The festival resumes bright and early Saturday morning at the park with hot air balloon launches, A 5K Run for hunger, and the Annual Pancake Breakfast served at CenterPlace. The day continues with three stage of national and local bands, live entertainment, with acts and productions reflecting our cultural diversity. Other Valleyfest events include a Classic Car Show, Kids Zone and Fishing at the Falls. Live entertainment, family games and Responsible Dog Ownership events continue with Sunday in the Park and the Family Bike Tour.

Valleyfest is proud to make space available during the festival for social service organizations and businesses to promote their operations and to provide activities for children as well as the entire family. Additional booth space is available in Marketplace, Crafts and Artfaire.
